Energy Tomorrow 2025 - Climate Change, Democracy & Responsibility

Energy Tomorrow is an annual conference organised by the TPA Group focusing on global energy and sustainability issues.

The aim of the event is to bring together decision-makers from the energy sector to discuss current developments, innovative solutions and future challenges.

Keynote speaker and political scientist Ivan Krastev, IG Windkraft CEO Florian Maringer, Austria’s Scientist of the Year 2024 Prof. Dr. Sigrid Stagl, future astronaut and climate researcher Dr. Insa Thiele-Eich and more high-level speakers will cover a wide range of topics – from climate change to the highly topical issue of democracy and responsibility.

A leading keynote and a series of inspiring impulse talks will discuss various aspects in a controversial and educational way.

Participation is by invitation only and places are limited.

Speakers

Ivan Krastev

The Bulgarian political scientist and publicist is Chairman of the Centre for Liberal Strategies in Sofia and Senior Fellow at the renowned Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna.

He focuses on the future of Europe, the rise of populism and the crises of democracy.

He publishes regularly in leading international media such as the New York Times and Die Zeit.

His best-known works include The Light That Failed and After Europe.

Keynote: “Making sense of an unsettled world.”

Dr. Insa Thiele-Eich

Dr. Insa Thiele-Eich is a German meteorologist and climate researcher. Since 2017, she has been training as a candidate for the “Die Astronautin” initiative, aiming to become the first German woman to fly to the ISS.

She is the mother of five children and the daughter of ESA astronaut Gerhard Thiele.

Florian Maringer

Florian Maringer is an Austrian energy and climate expert and has been the Managing Director of IG Windkraft since October 2024. Previously, he served as Managing Director of the Austrian Renewable Energy Association and worked at the Ministry for Climate Action.

In early 2024, he founded the KONTEXT Institute for Climate Issues. His goal is the rapid expansion of wind energy to help Austria meet its climate targets.

Prof Dr. Sigrid Stagl

Prof. Dr. Sigrid Stagl is an Austrian economist and expert in ecological economics. She was the first person worldwide to earn a PhD in Ecological Economics. Since 2008, she has been a professor at WU Vienna, where she also founded the Institute for Ecological Economics. Her research focuses on sustainable work, ecological macroeconomics, and energy systems.

In 2024, she was honored as “Scientist of the Year”.

Daniela Kletzan-Slamanig

Daniela Kletzan-Slamanig is an economist at WIFO and has been working in the research group ‘Climate, Environmental and Resource Economics’ since 1999.

Her research focusses on economic instruments of environmental policy with a focus on climate change, sustainable consumption and environmental taxes.

From 2003 to 2008 she coordinated the research department. Her professional experience includes participation in projects funded by the EU framework programmes (MOSUS, TranSust) and economic analyses at national level.

Nadja Bernhard

Nadja Bernhard is an Austrian TV journalist and presenter who is best known for her role as a presenter on the ORF news programme ‘Zeit im Bild’ (ZIB). After studying journalism and art history in Vienna, she began her career at ORF in 1999, including as a foreign correspondent in Rome and Washington. She has been presenting ZIB1 since December 2012 and has since become one of the most recognisable faces on the Austrian news scene.
